Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a late transfer window move for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, according to the Evening Standard.
Both clubs have struggled in front of goal this season and are in the market for a proven scorer to solve their woes.
The London clubs have Wilson on their radar as he could be available for an affordable £18 million.
Newcastle are handicapped financially and need player sales to balance their books. With 18 months left on his deal, Wilson is an option.
The Magpies will believe they can cope in Wilson’s absence with Alexander Isak leading the line.
Wilson, who has bagged 46 goals in 102 appearances for Newcastle, could ease the scoring burden on Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah at Arsenal.
The pair have scored eight league goals between them this season. The Gunners need more from their strikers, especially if they want to remain in the Premier League title race.
As for Chelsea, they continue to be the most wasteful teams in the league after missing 41 big chances.
They are in the market for a new striker, with Nicolas Jackson away on international duty and Armando Broja on the market.
Chelsea could use an experienced stop-gap striker to fill the role before signing a big-money centre-forward in the summer.
It is worth noting that Newcastle rejected a loan offer for Wilson from Atletico Madrid, but their financial situation means they will consider a sale.
They have managed to keep captain Kieran Trippier amid interest from Bayern Munich. Miguel Almiron is keen on staying in Tyneside despite Al-Shabab making an offer.
Wilson could be the one sold to balance Newcastle’s books, and Arsenal and Chelsea are looking like viable candidates for his signature.
AC Milan are also eyeing a swoop for the England international.
