Al-Shabab agree deal to sign Newcastle star Miguel Almiron

Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab have reportedly reached a provisional agreement to sign Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Paraguayan star is open to moving to Saudi Arabia, but the finer points of the agreement are still being finalised.

The Saudi Pro League looks set to continue its raid on Europe as they hope to boost the profile of their competition.

Almiron, who has bagged three goals and one assist in 21 Premier League appearances this term, is their latest target.

He joined Newcastle in January 2019 and has been a mainstay in the first team. He struggled for end product in his first few seasons at the club before exploding last term.

The 29-year-old bagged 11 goals and two assists, helping the Magpies to finish in a Champions League spot.

Almiron could join Romain Saiss, Habib Diallo and Yannick Carrasco at Al-Shabab as they bid to climb the league table.

Newcastle will be open to Almiron’s sale. They need money to finance their transfer dealings.

The Magpies have been handicapped by Financial Fair Play rules, leaving them with little room for manoeuvre in the winter transfer window.

Newcastle are light in midfield and are in the market for reinforcements as they look to bounce back from a torrid first half of the season.

They have been linked with a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who is reportedly unsettled at Goodison Park, but face a fight to sign the Belgian.

Arsenal and Manchester United have him on their radar and could pip Newcastle to his signing.

Newcastle have also been eyeing a move for Manchester City and England international Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips has struggled for game time at City and is looking for an escape route.
