Morning Mix: Tottenham need a January boost, Man City set to charge

It is the final Friday of 2023 which means it is time for ‘Morning Mix’ – our weekly football column with a bit of music thrown in for good measure.

We look at two major talking points for the weekend ahead and point you in the direction of some of the best football stories elsewhere on the internet.

We also offer a top tune recommendation to get you in the mood for the weekend and what to watch out for over the coming days. Let’s get the ball rolling!

Tottenham need a January boost

The January transfer window is almost here and Tottenham Hotspur fans will be hoping the club gives manager Ange Postecoglou some backing.

Postecoglou has already called for new technical director Johan Lange to act quickly, with his wafer-thin squad desperately needing some reinforcements.

The Australian has done well to get Tottenham in contention for a top-four finish – the next few weeks will tell us whether the club is serious about staying there.

Man City set to charge

After the latest round of Premier League fixtures, reigning champions Manchester City are five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

Injuries to key players have not been helping their cause, yet they remain firmly in contention to win the title for the fourth successive year.

Given their penchant for being stronger in the second half of the season, Pep Guardiola’s side will likely power past their rivals over the next few months.

The week that was

Are you looking for the best football stories from the past week? Check these out:

Today’s top tune

Joe Carnall Jnr’s annual Christmas party in Sheffield was a two-day affair this year, doubling the fun for his loyal army of fans.

He highlighted during the gigs that Milburn band member Tom Rowley isn’t overly keen on this tune. That seems like a good reason to share it!

What to watch this week

Keep an eye on the Fulham vs Arsenal game on Sunday to see if Declan Rice turns up. He was nowhere to be seen against West Ham United in midweek.

A final Morning Mix thought

Speaking of West Ham. Isn’t it time they stopped faffing about and sorted out a new contract with David Moyes?
