France striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he is not considering retiring from international football yet.
Giroud became France’s all-time top scorer following his four-goal haul at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The ex-Arsenal man suffered a disappointing end to his final appearance at football’s biggest tournament, coming off before the half-time whistle in the final against Argentina.
However, he is still looking to write another chapter with Les Bleus.
“I’m not yet ready to hang up my boots and take off this France shirt that I carry in my heart,” Giroud told France 2 (h/t RMC Sport).
“I’m motivated to keep going and I’m also in the physical shape to do it – I feel good.
“For now, I’m still available for the national team. I don’t know where I can get to.
“At the next European Championships, or even beyond, I can’t say – as long as I’m fine, I don’t set myself limits.”
Giroud’s decision to continue with France would undoubtedly come as a significant boost to Didier Deschamps.
The head coach has already bid farewell to Hugo Lloris and Raphael Varane after the duo called it quits on their international careers.
Even at the age of 36, Giroud continues to deliver the goods as he grabbed the winning goal in AC Milan’s 1-0 victory over Torino on Friday to take his tally to 11 for the campaign across all competitions.
It is no surprise that talks between Giroud and Milan over a new deal are already underway, with the Rossoneri seeking to keep hold of their talisman for one more season.
Giroud will be looking to add to his four Champions League group-stage strikes on Tuesday when Milan welcome Tottenham Hotspur to San Siro in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
