Former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is reportedly on track for a reunion with Lionel Messi at Major League Soccer club Inter Miami in 2024, according to El Pais.
Gremio confirmed the El Pistolero’s departure earlier this year. However, he has remained committed to the Brazilian side in the closing games of the Brasileirao campaign.
The Uruguayan football legend has given his all to Gremio. He is currently the team’s top scorer, bagging 19 goals and 15 assists in 45 appearances.
With Suarez spearheading Gremio, they have enjoyed a successful year, climbing into fourth place.
They are only nine points behind league leaders Botafogo and on course to secure a qualification spot for the Copa Libertadores.
Suarez emphasised his dedication to Gremio in a recent statement.
He said: “I committed to the club to try to play as many games as I can. It is my way of thanking them for their effort.
“There were days of training after the games that Renato told me not to go to train, to rest, and I went because the commitment to the club is 100%.”
The transition to Miami has been meticulously planned, with email exchanges already taking place between the former Liverpool attacker and the club.
They have proposed a one-year contract, with the possibility of an additional year.
Suarez’s knee concerns, a point of contention during negotiations, are reportedly under control.
Close sources to the player confirm his diligent daily treatment regimen and effective management of physical loads, facilitated by Gremio’s medical team.
The Uruguayan striker will travel to America in December to finalise contractual details and logistical arrangements for his family.
However, Suarez remains resolute in his commitment to performing for Gremio while donning their jersey.
Miami recently parted ways with Josef Martinez, making way for Suarez to join.
The prospect of Suarez’s reunion with Messi, alongside former teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, is an exciting one for Miami fans.
