Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has revealed they could be without Anthony Elanga for their Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Sunday.
Elanga’s uncertain status adds further pressure to Forest’s already struggling attacking options.
He has been battling an illness over the past few days, leaving his availability in doubt for the crucial trip to Anfield.
This news comes on the heels of a frustrating 2-2 draw at home against Luton Town, extending Forest’s winless streak to five games.
Forest have collected only ten points from their opening nine matches this season, a situation that has left their fans craving a turnaround in fortunes.
The former Manchester United attacker will be closely monitored over the next few days as the club hopes to avoid adding him to their growing injury list, which currently features Taiwo Awoniyi (groin), Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring) and Divock Origi (hip).
Cooper said (via Nottingham Post): “Nobody is going to return to the starting line-up, which is obviously frustrating – particularly at the top end of the pitch, where we are not blessed with a lot of options because of player availability.
“Anthony has been ill for a few days as well. He will be touch and go for the game. If he is available, we are not sure if he will be available to start.
“He was excellent against Luton, so that would be unfortunate. Premier League games are really demanding when it comes to the physical aspect of things, so he is a doubt.”
Forest are without Gonzalo Montiel (calf). But there’s a glimmer of hope on the injury front with Nuno Tavares (groin), Danilo (hamstring) and Felipe (knee) participating in training this week.
Felipe has not played for the first team this season. Danilo has been sidelined since being forced off against Chelsea, and Tavares was substituted during their match against Manchester City.
