Premier League stars Tonali & Zaniolo questioned in betting scandal investigation

Aston Villa’s Nicolo Zaniolo and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali are under scrutiny amidst an investigation into potential illegal betting activities, per Fabrizio Romano.

Accompanied by Italy delegation chief and legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, Zaniolo and Tonali will be interviewed by investigators as part of an ongoing probe into what appears to be a growing betting scandal.

Football authorities continue to battle with issues related to gambling and its impact on the integrity of the sport.

Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli is already under formal investigation for his alleged involvement in illegal betting on gambling sites.

These incidents have sent shockwaves through the football community, and there are concerns that more players may be involved in similar transgressions.

Zaniolo and Tonali are currently away from their respective clubs. The pair are training at the Coverciano training camp, preparing for Italy’s 2024 European Championship qualifiers against Malta and England

The seriousness of the allegations could potentially jeopardise their participation in these crucial matches, casting a cloud of uncertainty over their immediate footballing futures.

Tonali’s recent transfer to Newcastle from AC Milan in a deal worth approximately £55 million has brought him into the Premier League spotlight.

Tonali has been bedding in nicely with the Magpies, scoring once in his ten appearances for the club.

Zaniolo moved to Aston Villa from Galatasaray, initially on a loan deal with conditions for a permanent purchase. He is still fitting into Unai Emery’s side.

The current situation adds an extra layer of complexity to their burgeoning careers.
