Disasi & Badiashile: ‘Chelsea has a tradition of winning, we cannot afford to be in a transition phase’

Chelsea defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile have shed light on their close-knit relationship forged at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the defensive duo discussed Chelsea’s pressing need to compete immediately rather than undergoing a transition phase.

Disasi and Badiashile were at Monaco together and earned the move to Stamford Bridge following impressive performances in Ligue 1.

The pair said they cherish their time in Monaco and the bond they formed there. However, their focus is on the challenges at Stamford Bridge.

Disasi said: “We know Chelsea is a club with a rich history and ambitious goals. We’re here to contribute to the team’s success immediately. 

“There’s no room for complacency, and that’s the mindset we share.”

Badiashile echoed his sentiments, emphasising Chelsea’s stature and the responsibility it carries. 

“We have to be ready from day one,” Badiashile said. “This club has a tradition of winning, and the fans expect us to compete at the highest level. We cannot afford to be in a transition phase; we have to hit the ground running.”

The landscape is changing at Chelsea. The club was a powerhouse during the Roman Abramovich years, consistently competing for top honours in domestic and European competitions. 

However, following the arrival of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital consortium last year, the club endured a midtable finish before reshuffling the squad this summer.

The transition has seen Chelsea sign young talents like Disasi and Badiashile. However, the pair arrived determined to maintain Chelsea’s competitive edge.

The competition is relentless, and there’s no room for a grace period or a transitional phase. 

The demands are high, and with Chelsea’s rich history and demanding fan base, they cannot afford to fall behind.
