Chelsea captain Reece James faces FA charge following tunnel incident

Chelsea captain Reece James is in hot water with the Football Association (FA) over an alleged incident in the tunnel following Saturday’s defeat by Aston Villa.

The England international defender was not involved in the match due to an injury but faces allegations of misconduct by the FA.

The incident reportedly involved James confronting referee Jarred Gillett after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Villa at Stamford Bridge on September 24.

The FA charge gives James until September 29 to respond and address the alleged breach of FA rule E3.

This situation adds to Chelsea’s disciplinary woes this season that prompted manager Mauricio Pochettino to speak to his players.

Nicolas Jackson received his fifth yellow card in only his sixth Premier League appearance against Villa.

The Senegalese striker will miss their next league game against Fulham, while midfielder Enzo Fernandez is one game away from a suspension.

Chelsea were reduced to ten men during the Villa encounter and ultimately succumbed to Ollie Watkins’ goal.

Defender Malo Gusto went for an early shower after a poor challenge on Lucas Digne. The Blues need to work on their discipline and maturity.

However, they will be more worried about their other on-field issues. Chelsea are 14th in the Premier League with just five points from their first six matches.

This marks their worst start to a season in eight years, putting significant pressure on Pochettino.

However, Chelsea put their league troubles aside to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup tonight to advance to the next round.

It was only their second win this term, but their fans will derive hope from the victory.
