Tottenham star James Maddison scoops Player of the Month award for August 2023

Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder James Maddison has been crowned the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for August.

Maddison beat off stiff competition from Taiwo Awoniyi, Jarrod Bowen, Bryan Mbeumo, Kaoru Mitoma, and Rodri to secure the award.

The English international arrived at Spurs from Leicester City in a £40 million summer transfer and has started the season on fire.

Tottenham are unbeaten so far, and he has notched up a joint-league high of three-goal involvements, demonstrating his scoring and playmaking prowess.

The 26-year-old made his mark right from the outset, starting his Tottenham journey with two crucial assists in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Brentford.

Maddison then netted in a decisive 2-0 victory over Bournemouth. His home debut against Manchester United in a 2-0 win was dazzling, and he named it his favourite moment of the month.

He said (via the Premier League’s official website): “I’ve been nominated for the award a few times, so it’s a nice feeling to actually win it.

“It’s never easy as a new player at a new club in the Premier League, so if you’d have offered me this at the start of the season, I’d have bitten your hand off!

“So many big names, elite players in the past and currently have won this award, so it’s nice to be in that category. This award will sit nicely on the mantelpiece!”
