Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has opened up about his recent struggles on and off the field.
Despite wearing the Brazilian national team jersey with pride, he has grappled with a lack of goals and the weight of personal challenges that have affected his performances.
The Brazilian international started the Selecao’s last two games but failed to find the back of the net.
He had an excellent chance to score against Bolivia but blasted his shot over the bar. When he was substituted off, Richarlison could be seen in tears on the bench.
The 26-year-old has struggled in front of goal for club and country. He scored only once in the Premier League for Tottenham last season.
He is yet to open his account this term despite now being the focal point in Spurs’ attack following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
After Brazil’s 1-0 victory over Peru, Richarlison admitted he was ready to seek professional help.
Richarlison said (via Ge Globo): “I went through a turbulent time in the last five months off the field. Now things are right at home.
“People who only had an eye on my money walked away from me. Now things will start to flow.
“I’m sure I’ll get a good run at Tottenham and make things happen again.
“That sad moment (of him crying on the bench) wasn’t even because I played poorly.
“In my opinion, I didn’t play a bad game in Belem. It was more of an outburst about the things that were happening off the field, which got out of control not on my part but on the part of people who were close to me.
“I’m going to go back to England, seek psychological help from a psychologist, to work on my mind.”
Richarlison recently parted ways with businessman Renato Velasco, who had been with him since early on in his career.
His willingness to share his journey and vulnerability sends a powerful message – that seeking professional support for mental health is not a sign of weakness but a commendable act of self-care.
With the support of a psychologist, he aims to rebuild his mental resilience and emerge stronger both as a player and as an individual.
