Brighton & Hove Albion are working towards securing a contract extension for Joel Veltman, according to The Athletic.
Veltman’s deal expires this summer and he has stated his desire to continue with his current employers despite also being open to a move abroad.
“I am happy, but I am also open to other options,” the Dutchman was quoted saying by Soccernews.
“I am having a good time in England, but Italy or Spain would be nice.
“Returning to Ajax is not an option for me now – I will remain an Ajax player and continue to follow the club, but I now feel great and I am at an age where I can sign a nice contract abroad again.
“I am curious about my options after this season, especially if we really make history with Brighton.”
Veltman joined Brighton in 2020 and has established himself as a first-team regular, making 102 appearances across all competitions.
With Brighton sitting eighth in the Premier League table, they are firmly in the hunt to qualify for European football.
The Seagulls will be keen to retain a vast number of their key figures at the AMEX Stadium this term around, while also strengthening their squad next summer.
Having already secured the long-term future of teenage prospect Evan Ferguson, Brighton are also closing in on the acquisition of Joao Pedro from Championship club Watford.
Off the back of a disappointing couple of days which saw them crash out of the FA Cup and suffer a 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest most recently, Brighton will be keen to get back on track as soon as possible.
Robert De Zerbi’s men face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, before playing host to Manchester United a week later with revenge for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat on the agenda.
