Premier League newcomers Luton Town and Burnley were scheduled to meet in mid-August, but the game was postponed due to ongoing work at Kenilworth Road.
Luton’s first top-flight outing on home turf since 1992 was initially scheduled for August 19, with the Clarets expected to touch down in Bedfordshire on Matchday 2.
However, the Hatters failed to offer the league chiefs and Burnley a guarantee over the club’s effort to bring Kenilworth Road up to Premier League standard.
The Premier League gave Luton extra time to accommodate the completion of the new Bobbers Stand at their stadium, resulting in the postponement of the original date.
According to the league’s official website, Kenilworth Road will host the match between Luton and Burnley on Tuesday, October 3 (7.30 pm).
Rob Edwards’ side played their first Premier League home game in over three decades on the eve of September’s international break but suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.
The Hatters’ only win at Kenilworth Road this season was on August 29, as they squeezed past lower-league Gillingham 3-2 in League Cup action, setting up a round-three tie against Exeter City.
Burnley’s Premier League return hasn’t differed much from Luton’s abysmal early experience in the top flight, with Vincent Kompany’s team losing all three league outings.
Nailed to the bottom of the standings, the Clarets headed into the international break as the only side in England’s elite division to have conceded double figures.
Kompany’s men have capitulated 11 times this term, most recently suffering a dismal 5-2 home loss to Aston Vila.
To make things worse, each of Burnley’s three league defeats this season has come at Turf Moor, suggesting the upcoming trip to Luton could be a welcoming distraction.
