Inter Milan and AC Milan to battle out for Canadian star Jonathan David in 2024

Inter Milan and AC Milan are set to battle for Lille striker Jonathan David after identifying him as a top target for next summer, claims Tuttosport.

The Canadian was touted to be on the move this summer, but Lille’s valuation put off potential suitors.

David could get his transfer wish next summer as Lille will be eager to cash in on him with his contract expiring in 2025.

Les Dogues haven’t budged from their valuation of €60 million but may have to lower it to avoid the risk of David playing out his contract.

Both Milan clubs are looking to recruit the 23-year-old to strengthen their attack.

Milan tried to bring in Mehdi Taremi during the final days of the summer transfer window, but the deal collapsed, prompting them to sign Luka Jovic from Fiorentina.

Olivier Giroud is not showing any signs of slowing down, but Milan are aware that an heir to the Frenchman’s throne is needed sooner or later.

Despite having summer signing Noah Okafor at their disposal, Mialn have earmarked David as a priority target.

The Canadian also perfectly fits Milan’s new transfer policy of signing young players with higher ceilings.

Milan’s de facto sporting director Geoffrey Moncada has good ties with Lille after playing a key role in the transfers of Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan.

It could play to Milan’s advantage in the pursuit of David, whose stock continues to be on the rise after scoring two goals in four games this season.

Inter are also keen on the Canadian centre-forward despite boasting a packed attacking line-up.

Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez are currently down the pecking order, and a departure for either player next summer could pave the way for David’s arrival.

However, David may struggle to break into Inter’s starting eleven, with the strike duo of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram proving to be prolific.

More clubs are expected to be in contention for David next summer, with Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Juventus also credited as potential suitors.
