Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga set to join Augsburg on loan

Augsburg are reportedly very close to signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga on loan.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports the two clubs have already reached a verbal agreement over a move for the 24-year-old.

The English footballer is set to undergo his medical on Friday morning ahead of the summer transfer deadline

Tanganga will join the Bundesliga outfit for a season-long loan with the club having the option to make the move permanent next year.

The young centre-back enjoyed a spectacular breakthrough at Spurs under then-manager Jose Mourinho but he has since struggled for game time.

He made only two Premier League starts and a solitary substitute appearance in the Champions League last season. The defender is yet to make an appearance this term.

The 24-year-old is clearly not in the long-term plans of Australian boss Ange Postecoglou, who prefers Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero in central defence.

Tanganga will hope to reignite his career by moving to Germany as he looks to have no future at Spurs.

Augsburg, who just managed to survive in the top flight last season, have picked up one point in their first two Bundesliga matches.

Enrico Maaßen’s side will hope for a boost with the loan signing of Tanganga, who primarily plays in central defence but can also be used as a right-back.
