Nottingham Forest sign Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares on loan

Nottingham Forest have signed Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old joins the Tricky Trees to provide cover at left-back with Harry Toffolo suspended for breaching betting rules.

Tavares joins Forest following a decent loan spell in France last season. He bagged six goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

He showed his attacking drive and defensive frailties, and he is an exciting capture for Forest.

Tavares broke through at Benfica, where he had been since joining them in 2015. He broke into the first team as an understudy to Alejandro Grimaldo.

He secured a surprising move to Arsenal in 2021 and made 28 appearances before leaving on loan last season.

Tavares said (via the club’s official website): “I’m really happy to be here. Forest is a historic club which won two European Cups, and to be part of it makes me really happy.

“I’m really happy to stay in the Premier League as it’s the best league in the world, and I’m thankful to Forest for giving me that opportunity.”

Forest have been active in the transfer window, making Tavares their eighth summer signing.

He joins Anthony Elanga, Chris Wood, Murillo, Matt Turner, Ola Aina, Andrey Santos and Gonzalo Montiel at the City Ground.

Forest have deals in the pipeline before the close of the transfer window tonight. They are still in talks to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare.

Sangare holds the key to the deal as he has to decide whether to stay and play Champions League football or leave for the Premier League.

Forest will also sign Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi and are trying to conclude a deal for Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.
