Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice named Europa Conference League Player of the Year for 2022/23 season

During the Europa Conference League group stage draw, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was announced the Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season.

The award follows an excellent campaign for West Ham United in which he captained them to victory in Prague.

Rice was a firm fixture in West Ham manager David Moyes’ side, featuring in 11 games on their way to win the title.

The 24-year-old won 60% of his aerial and 72% of his ground duels in the tournament, recording 1.7 tackles per game.

Rice is also an adept ball-carrier, and it was on display in the Europa Conference League, particularly for his solo goal in the quarter-final victory over Gent.

The English international picked up the ball in the centre before slaloming through the midfield and defence to finish.

Rice’s form earned him a big move to Arsenal, where he has replaced Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.

He will hope to play a vital role as Arsenal bid to challenge for the Premier League title and participate in Europe.

The Champions League draw was held yesterday, with Arsenal paired with Sevilla, PSV Eindhoven and RC Lens.

However, before thinking of their European commitments, the Gunners must worry about domestic issues.

They face Manchester United on Sunday in the top clash of the weekend and will be hoping for all three points after dropping two against Fulham in their last Premier League game.

The Gunners will fancy themselves against a Man United side still finding their footing for the season.
