Liverpool are set to welcome another midfielder into the fold, with Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch poised for a move to Anfield.
The Athletic reports that both clubs have struck an agreement that will see Liverpool pay a €40 million fixed fee for the Dutch midfielder.
Gravenberch is expected to take the next available flight to Merseyside tonight ahead of undergoing medical examinations tomorrow.
He will commit his long-term future to the Anfield project, with Liverpool keen to get the deal over the line ahead of the transfer deadline.
The 21-year-old will be looking to relaunch his once-promising career at Anfield following a horror 12-month spell at the Allianz Arena.
He joined the German champions last summer after departing Ajax but struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Gravenberch made 33 appearances across all competitions last term but only found his way into the starting line-up seven times.
He started three Bundesliga fixtures, leading to increased frustration and speculation over his long-term future with the Bavarians.
Bayern were initially reluctant to sanction his departure, but they will pocket a substantial profit from his imminent exit, having paid around €18m to prize him away from Amsterdam last year.
The highly-rated Dutchman will become Liverpool’s fourth summer signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
Gravenberch has only managed nine minutes of top-flight football this season, but Jurgen Klopp has been a long-term admirer of the youngster and will fancy his chances of getting the Dutchman back to his sparkling best.
Manchester United were also interested in signing Gravenberch, but the Red Devils have prioritised a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat instead.
Gravenberch’s exit could force Bayern to accelerate their efforts in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, who has emerged as a priority target for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
It remains to be seen if they can convince Fulham to soften their stance on the player’s future, but Man United’s Scott McTominay is also an option for the German heavyweights.
