Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo wins Saudi player of the month

Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Saudi Pro League Player of the Month award for August.

The Portuguese star beat off competition from Al-Ittihad’s Igor Coronado and Al-Ahli’s Riyad Mahrez to land the prestigious award.

This is the second time Ronaldo has been named Player of the Month after he won the award in February when he scored eight goals in four league matches.

The Portugal international has made a spectacular start to the 2023-24 campaign, scoring five goals and registering two assists in three league appearances.

He failed to fire in his first league match of the season against Al-Taawoun as Al-Nassr slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

But the 38-year-old scored twice against Al-Hilal to help his side win the Arab Club Champions Cup. He also produced a superb display in the next Saudi Pro League game against Al-Fateh.

Ronaldo netted a brilliant hat-trick to lead his side to an emphatic 5-0 success at Prince Abdullah Bin Jalawi Stadium.

The former Real Madrid star set up Sadio Mane for the opening goal before getting on the scoresheet himself in the 38th minute.

Ronaldo added two more in the second half as the Knights of Najd sealed a comfortable victory.

The experienced forward was just as destructive in their following home match against Al-Shabab.

He converted both his spot-kicks to put his side in control before Mane extended their advantage ahead of half-time.

Sultan Al-Ghannam added a late third as Al-Nassr ran out 4-0 winners against Al-Shabab.
