Leeds United have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Djed Spence, the club have confirmed on their official website.
The 23-year-old full-back will spend the 2023/24 campaign in the Championship with Leeds, who are hoping to make a swift return to the Premier League.
He becomes the sixth summer addition to Daniel Farke’s squad in a transfer window that has seen the Yorkshire club make wholesale changes after suffering relegation.
Spence spent the second half of last season on loan at Stade Rennais but featured just eight times in the French top flight before returning to Spurs at the end of the season.
The England under-21 international barely featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side during pre-season and will hope to revive his once-promising career at Elland Road this term.
“It’s good to be here, and I can’t wait to get started,” Spence told LUTV after signing on the dotted line.
“It’s a big club – obviously there’s a good squad, and there is ambition at the club to get back to the Premier League.
“I just want to get playing again. There’s a good manager here. I’ve heard a lot about him and the way he wants to play attacking football. I think that will suit my style of football.
“I’ve spoken to him [Daniel Farke], and he’s orchestrated in the way he wants to play – it sounded good, and for me, it was the right decision.”
Spence will link up with fellow Spurs loanee Joe Rodon in the Leeds dressing room, with both players deemed surplus to requirements.
Leeds are set to be very active in the business end of the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad even further before Friday’s deadline.
They have been rejected twice by Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri but retain an interest in Leicester City defender Luke Thomas – although they may face competition from Manchester United for the Englishman.
Farke is also keen to add more firepower to his forward line and is pursuing a move for Genk attacker Joseph Paintsil.
