Rennes have submitted an offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez worth around €9 million, according to L’Equipe.
They are in the Europa League this season and need defensive reinforcements as they look to make a deep run in Europe alongside other domestic duties.
Rennes are particularly keen on a new defender because Premier League clubs have shown interest in Arthur Theate.
Arsenal defender Rob Holding is also on the shortlist to replace Theate.
Building upon their loan acquisitions of Joe Rodon and Djed Spence on loan last season, Rennes are orchestrating yet another defensive deal with Tottenham.
Sanchez joined the London club in 2017 and has been an integral part of the team but is down the pecking order.
Tottenham are open to the prospect of parting ways with the Colombian international as he has only one year left on his current contract. They want between €10-15 million.
Despite amassing over 200 appearances across various competitions during his tenure in English football, Sanchez is down in the defensive hierarchy for Ange Postecoglou.
His presence on the bench in their last two Premier League fixtures shows his prospects at the club this season, and he is better off searching for game time elsewhere.
If this deal materialises, Sanchez will become Rennes’ sixth acquisition this summer, joining Enzo Le Fee, Ludovic Blas, Nemanja Matic, Gauthier Gallon and Geoffrey Lembet.
Rennes started their Ligue 1 campaign with a 5-1 thrashing of Metz but have since drawn their matches with Lens and Le Havre, failing to keep a clean sheet.
They will hope that Sanchez can help them plug the holes at the back.
