Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have submitted a €15 million offer to RC Strasbourg Alsace for midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter.
Bellegarde’s versatility, which allows him to excel both as an attacking midfielder and a winger, has caught the attention of the Midlands club.
The Frenchman’s current contract with Les Alsaciens will expire in 2024, and Wolves’ €15 million proposal has put them in a tight corner.
They could take the money to reinvest to avoid losing him for free next summer. However, they could keep him as he is a prized asset.
Bellegarde’s form in the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season has only intensified the excitement surrounding his potential transfer.
The midfielder has bagged two goals and two assists in three games for Strasbourg. He has been one of the top performers in Ligue 1.
Despite Strasbourg’s commendable start to the season, boasting two victories in their opening three fixtures, Bellegarde’s possible departure looms large.
However, Wolves are not the only suitors lining up for his services. The 25-year-old, who initially made his mark with RC Lens in 2019 before joining Strasbourg, is at the centre of a transfer battle.
OGC Nice have been interested in securing Bellegarde’s services throughout the summer, although they have not submitted an offer to their Ligue 1 counterparts.
Bournemouth are also in the fray, expressing genuine interest in Bellegarde’s potential transfer, as the closing curtain of the transfer window on Friday fast approaches.
Bellegarde has been impressive throughout his tenure with Les Alsaciens, amassing eight goals and 16 assists in his 138 appearances.
It remains to be seen whether Strasbourg will accept Wolves’ offer, wait for a bidding war between all interested parties or ultimately reject any advances to keep one of their brightest talents.
