Barcelona and Sevilla in advanced talks for Clement Lenglet loan

La Liga giants Sevilla have shown late interest in reuniting with Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, and they are in advanced talks to strike an agreement, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan giants have been working on the sale of the French defender for a while but haven’t seen any positive development.

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur had been in negotiations with the Catalan giants for the signing of Lenglet, who spent the last season on loan with the Lilywhites.

However, no agreement was found between the two parties, and Lenglet also declined an offer from the Saudi Pro League.

Having offloaded several players deemed surplus to requirements this summer, the Catalan giants consider the sale of Lenglet a priority to clear up their wage bill.

The 28-year-old has a new suitor in Sevilla, where he spent the 2017/18 season before moving to Barca.

Although Tottenham remain in contention, Sevilla appear to be in pole position after speeding up their talks with the Catalan giants over a transfer.

The Europa League winners are working on a loan move with a buy option due to their well-documented financial problems.

With the transfer window drawing to a close in a few days, Los Nervionenses want to wrap up the deal soon.

Ex-Paris Saint-Germain star Sergio Ramos was also linked with a return to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but Sevilla have opted against his signing.

Lenglet would be a much-needed addition to Sevilla’s backline, which has looked far from its best in the opening games of this season.

Barca will now accelerate their efforts to sort out the deal for Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo and potentially try to bring Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
