Leeds table €10m offer for Genk striker Joseph Paintsil

Leeds United have launched an official proposal to sign Genk winger Joseph Paintsil, The Athletic reports.

The Lilywhites have tabled a bid worth €10 million for the Ghanaian forward, and the agreement will include a sell-on clause for the Belgian club.

Paintsil is reportedly keen on a switch to Elland Road, and an agreement on personal terms will not be an issue.

Leeds are eager to bolster their attacking ranks, and the Ghana international is among several targets on their extensive shortlist.

The Championship outfit are yet to receive a response from Genk and are likely to turn their attention elsewhere if negotiations do not progress soon.

Paintsil was initially a target for Southampton, who are also keen to land his signature before the transfer window closes.

The Saints had previously agreed to a swap deal with Genk that would have seen Paintsil head to the English second-tier club while Paul Onuachu moved in the opposite direction.

Onuachu was initially signed from Genk, and the Belgian club would have relished the opportunity to welcome the striker back into the fold, having previously notched 85 goals in 134 appearances for them.

However, both players involved in the swap agreement turned down the move, with Paintsil insisting his preference was to join Leeds.

Paintsil, who is capable of featuring across multiple positions behind a centre-forward, registered 18 goals and 14 assists in 39 games across all competitions last season.

He was one of the standout performers for Genk as they raced to the Belgium top-flight title, beating Union Saint-Gilloise to the punch on goal difference.

Daniel Farke will relish the chance to work with the 25-year-old winger at Elland Road, with the German keen to add more goalscoring options to his forward line.

The Yorkshire club have already completed the signing of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe, who notched 20 goals in 45 appearances last term.
