Crystal Palace interested in PSG flop Julian Draxler

Crystal Palace have thrown their hat into the ring for German midfielder Julian Draxler.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the Premier League club has initiated talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Draxler.

The player is among the ‘undesirables’ at PSG – a group of players sidelined from training that includes Georginio Wijnalduma and Colin Dagba.

Draxler’s stint with the French giants has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances.

His loan to Benfica last season yielded little success, with the German international starting just a handful of games in the Primeira Liga.

During the 2021/22 season, he made only five starts for PSG in Ligue 1.

Despite the manager change from Christophe Galtier to Luis Enrique, Draxler’s prospects at PSG appear grim.

The club was reportedly considering a contract termination for the former Schalke 04 midfielder.

Further fuel to the rumour mill came from local sources hinting at interest from Turkish clubs.

However, it seems Draxler could be heading to the English capital. Palace have reportedly approached PSG to discuss the prospect of a transfer.

With just a year left on his contract, they could sign him for a cheap fee. He will likely be open to the move to get a change of environment and hope he can put his injury issues behind him.

The potential move only raises questions about how the German’s skillset may complement Palace’s playing style.

The 29-year-old has often struggled in several positions across the frontline, so it will be interesting to see how he will fit into Roy Hodgson’s game plan.

This unexpected transfer could offer Draxler a fresh start to reignite his career while granting Palace a seasoned attacking midfielder to bolster their ranks.
