Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi eyeing more signings before end of transfer window

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has revealed he wants further additions to his squad this summer.

The Seagulls have made five summer acquisitions, snapping up Igor Julio, Bart Verbruggen, Joao Pedro, Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner.

However, De Zerbi is still looking to bolster the Brighton squad even further over the next seven days that remain before the transfer window shuts.

“Without Julio [Enciso], I think we need another attacker and a midfielder because we lost (Moises) Caicedo,” De Zerbi said via Sky Sports.

“It’s not fair to speak about other players [at other clubs] – we have many options.”

While De Zerbi’s need for midfield reinforcements was somewhat forced by the departure of Caicedo, he was keen on signing a new forward even before Julio Enciso damaged his knee in last Saturday’s victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Brighton had earlier reached an agreement with Ajax over a deal for Mohammed Kudus but could not agree personal terms with the 23-year-old, who is now closing in on a move to West Ham United.

It remains to be seen which alternatives Brighton have up their sleeves but have developed a reputation for being very efficient in the transfer window and will not panic in their search.

They have identified Lille’s Carlos Baleba as a prime target to replace Caicedo but had an opening bid rejected.

However, they have returned with an improved offer and remain in negotiations with their Ligue 1 counterparts.

After an impressive start to the new season, Brighton will bid to make it three wins from as many Premier League matches tomorrow when West Ham visit the Amex Stadium.
