AS Roma set sights on wantaway Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku after Sardar Azmoun transfer

AS Roma have turned their attention towards Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku after wrapping up a deal for Sardar Azmoun from Bayer Leverkusen, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Azmoun has arrived in Rome to undergo his medical tests, and his transfer is expected to be made official soon.

The Iranian forward will join the Capital giants on an initial loan with an option to buy for €13 million.

The Giallorossi are looking to add another centre-forward to their ranks before the end of the transfer window, with Lukaku’s name cropping up in recent times.

Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata appeared to be their priority target, but Roma have pulled the plug on the deal.

Lukaku continues to be the subject of heavy exit speculation as he is out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian international is desperate for a new lease of life with Serie A as his preferred destination, but the Blues are playing hardball with negotiations.

Juventus were locked in negotiations with Chelsea for Lukaku, but they have failed to convince the Premier League giants with their player plus cash offer involving Dusan Vlahovic.

Lukaku is open to reuniting with Mourinho in the Italian capital, but the Blues are expected to make things difficult for him again.

The Giallorossi are planning to sign the former Inter Milan man only on loan, while Chelsea want a permanent sale.

The Blues are also pressing Lukaku into moving to Saudi Arabia, who have been the highest bidders for the Belgian.

Chelsea’s city rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on him.
