Inter Milan have reached an agreement to re-sign Alexis Sanchez for free on a short-term deal, reports Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Chilean left the Nerazzurri last summer after a two-year spell and signed for Marseille on a free transfer.
Sanchez declined an extension offer from the Ligue 1 outfit and has been available as a free agent since parting ways with them this summer.
There were lucrative offers from Saudi Pro League clubs for the former Manchester United star and also from fellow Serie A rivals AS Roma, but he has decided to return to the San Siro.
He is set to undergo his medical tests on Friday.
Sanchez will join new signings Yann Bisseck, Marcus Thuram, Davide Frattesi, Juan Cuadrado, Raffale Di Gennaro, Yann Sommer, Emil Audero, Carlos Augusto and Marko Arnautovic at Inter.
The veteran forward enjoyed a productive season with Les Phoceens last term, netting 18 goals and three assists in all competitions.
Sanchez will be looking to replicate a similar kind of impact at Inter, but he is expected to find it difficult to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.
With Lautaro Martinez, Thuram and Arnautovic at the club, Sanchez will have to work hard to gain a prominent role in the squad.
During his previous stint at Inter, Sanchez was part of the side that won the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season.
In other news, Inter forward Joaquin Correa will be heading to Marseille after the French giants struck an agreement on a loan deal worth €2 million with a buy option of €10m.
The Argentine forward has decided to sever ties with the Nerazzurri after falling down the pecking order.
Inter kicked off the new season on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Monza, with Martinez netting a double.
