Al-Ahli closing in on shock move for Gabri Veiga as Napoli deal collapses

Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga’s proposed move to Napoli is on the verge of collapsing as Al-Ahli are now closing in on his services.

The Serie A Champions had an agreement in place for the Spanish youngster, but the deal hit an impasse over the last few days after Celta tried to change the terms at the last moment.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Saudi giants Al-Ahli have reached a total agreement with Celta over the transfer of Veiga.

The 21-year-old has also given his green light to the move, with the Saudi outfit’s head coach Matthias Jaissle playing a key role behind it.

Veiga is a statement signing for Al Ahli, as the Spaniard was one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe.

The Spanish U-21 star is set to join the long list of high-profile signings at the Jeddah-based outfit, including Riyad Mahrez, Roger Ibanez, Edouard Mendy, Roberto Firmino, Franck Kessie, Merih Demiral and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Al-Alhi have made a terrific start to the new season of the Saudi Pro League, winning their first two games.

Firmino bagged a hat-trick in the opening game against Al-Hazm before Ibanez and Mahrez were on the scoresheet in the victory over Al Khaleej.

Veiga’s addition will reinforce an already star-studded squad and increase Al-Ahli’s chances of winning the title.

Napoli have suffered a considerable setback regarding the pursuit of Veiga, which would force them to go back to the drawing board.

Even if the Neapolitans fail to sign an alternative before the end of the transfer window, they can rely on Piotr Zielinski, who has reportedly rejected an offer from Al-Ahli to stay at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
