Barcelona desperate to offload Clement Lenglet amid Tottenham links

Barcelona are determined to sever ties with Clement Lenglet before the transfer window closes in just over a week, SPORT reports.

The Catalan giants are willing to negotiate the terms of a potential transfer as they plan to free up space in their squad to allow for the registration of several key players.

The France international was previously expected to complete a move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nassr keen to secure his services.

However, he was uninterested in a transfer to the Middle East club in favour of remaining in Europe with the intention of proving himself at the highest level.

Despite his reluctance to join the Saudi exodus, Lenglet has very limited offers from European clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur his most likely destination.

The 28-year-old spent the last season on loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and made 35 appearances across all competitions.

Although he made no telling contribution to the team as Spurs finished outside the European places, they are considering retaining his services for the new season.

Barca are open to sanctioning another temporary transfer but will expect a purchase option as they value Lenglet at around €15 million.

Spurs are still in the market for defensive reinforcements and could consider launching a proposal for the Nations League champion.

Tottenham have cash to spare after pocketing over €100m from Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, but they need to free up space in the squad before recruiting new faces.

Spurs have several fringe players they will be hoping to move on before the end of the month, with Ange Postecoglou having to deal with a bloated squad.

Japhet Tanganga, Davison Sanchez, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso are all on the chopping block.

However, they are struggling to attract substantial attention from prospective suitors. Only Sanchez, Hojbjerg and Lo Celso made the squad in the 2-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday.
