Nottingham Forest make €35m offer for Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana

Nottingham Forest have made a verbal offer to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports their proposal of €35 million plus add-ons have matched the Ligue 1 club’s demands for the 24-year-old.

The Tricky Trees are now in negotiations with the player’s representatives to reach an agreement on personal terms.

Forest secured Premier League survival last season but they were battling relegation for most of the campaign.

Manager Steve Cooper is aiming to improve his squad by making some smart acquisitions in the summer transfer window

Forest have already signed Chris Wood, Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga and Matt Turner but are now looking to add a midfielder.

They believe Fofana to be an ideal option and are ready to part with a hefty sum to secure his services.

The France international joined Monaco from Strasbourg in 2020 and has been one of the key members of their team since then.

He has made over 140 appearances in all competitions for the Red and Whites, registering three goals.

Fofana featured in 36 Ligue 1 games for the French outfit last term, averaging 2.3 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per game (as per WhoScored).

The versatile midfielder has proven his skills in France but may need time to adjust to the intensity of the Premier League if he joins Forest.
