Barcelona have been actively working on signing a right-back this summer, with Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda among their shortlisted targets.
Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo is another option, but Barca’s new sporting director Deco is an admirer of Fresneda and wants to facilitate his transfer as one of his first tasks.
However, the Catalan giants need to act quickly or else they are at risk of missing out on the young Spaniard.
According to a new report from Diario Sport, offers are piling up for Fresneda, with clubs from the Premier League and Portuguese giants Sporting CP in contention for his signing.
Fresneda wants to join Barca, but he doesn’t want to linger around and is reportedly ready to look elsewhere if the Catalan giants delay their pursuit.
Valladolid are working to sort out his transfer so they can sign a replacement for him.
Talks have slowed down since Barca had an offer worth €8 million plus €5m in bonuses rejected by Valladolid.
Fresneda was one of the standout youngsters in La Liga last season and among the best players in his position.
The Blaugrana consider the Spaniard a vital prospect for the club’s future, and they are willing to invest in him irrespective of Cancelo’s arrival.
Fresneda is also open to the idea of being loaned out after moving to Barca.
The Catalan giants have submitted a loan proposal with a purchase option worth €30m to sign Cancelo.
The Portuguese full-back is keen on joining the La Liga champions, and his agent Jorge Mendes is helping to achieve a deal with Man City.
The Portuguese super agent is also working towards brokering a deal for another client Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid to Barca.
