Manchester United have offered an update on the future of Mason Greenwood, who is eagerly awaiting his fate.
The Red Devils have released a statement reporting that they have completed their internal investigation but are yet to make a decision on the player’s future at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old has seen charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control dismissed by the United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
However, Man United are still giving plenty of thought regarding whether or not he will be reintegrated into Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.
Greenwood’s future was due to be decided before the start of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, but the club wanted to conduct further investigations.
The situation seems to be nearing a conclusion, with the club now confirming that they have completed the fact-finding phase of their investigation.
The Athletic had previously reported that a decision had been reached that would see Greenwood welcomed back into the fold.
However, Man United have swiftly debunked said rumours, confirming that they have concluded the investigation but the player’s future is still subject to intensive internal deliberation.
“Following the dropping of all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him,” the club said in their official statement.
“The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.
“Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation.
“Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.”
Greenwood has been linked with a loan move to Atalanta, who are interested in acquiring his services on a temporary basis.
Talks of a loan switch to AS Roma have also circulated in the media during the transfer window, but former boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly uninterested.
