RB Leipzig join race for PSG full back Juan Bernat

RB Leipzig have joined the race for Paris Saint-Germain outcast Juan Bernat, according to L’Equipe.

The 30-year-old full-back is one of several players touted to exit the club before the transfer window closes amid an ongoing exodus at Parc des Princes.

Bernat has been with PSG since joining from Bayern Munich in 2018 but is not in Luis Enrique’s long-term plans.

Les Parisiens are well stocked in the left-back department. Nuno Mendes is the first choice but is currently out injured.

Summer signing Lucas Hernandez can also deputise on the left side of the defence despite being a natural centre-back.

Layvin Kurzawa is also an option, but Frenchman could leave the club this summer if a suitable proposal arrives.

Bernat has two years left on his contract with PSG but was not part of the squad that played out a goalless draw against Lorient in last weekend’s Ligue 1 curtain raiser.

Despite being surplus to requirements, Bernat is not short on interest from clubs across Europe.

Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly considering a loan move for the Frenchman, who is also the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia.

Bernat has also been linked with a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he would reunite with ex-PSG teammate Mauro Icardi.

However, Leipzig are the favourites in the race to capture the four-time French champion.

The DFL Supercup winners want to bolster their options at left-back and are exploring a deal to sign Bernat on loan with a buy option.

Having signed El Chadaille Bitshiabu and Xavi Simons earlier this summer, Bernat could become the latest PSG player to join the Bundesliga side.

The former Valencia man has made 128 appearances across all competitions for PSG, contributing eight goals and 15 assists.

He has won nine titles with PSG over the last five years, in a spell interrupted for over a year by an anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2020.
