Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio has offered an update on Jeremy Doku, who is attracting strong interest from Manchester City.
Man City are in the market for a new winger after losing Riyad Mahrez to the Saudi Pro League, and they have been strongly linked with the dazzling Belgian youngster.
Rennes kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign with a bang on Sunday night by thrashing newly promoted Metz 5-1 at Roazhon Park, and Doku was one of the stars of the show.
The 21-year-old forward scored the third goal, attempted and completed nine dribbles and recorded two key passes.
Genesio confirmed after the match there are ‘difficult to refuse’ offers on the table for Doku and did not rule out a summer departure for the youngster.
“It all depends on the offer we are talking about,” said Genesio (via RMC Sport). “There are offers that are difficult to refuse. For Jérémy Doku, it could be around €50 million.
“For the moment, we are not there. I have no information on what I read or hear. He is a Stade Rennais player – he showed it tonight. Until proven otherwise, he is usable.”
Man City are actively working on recruiting Doku, who could be their third signing of the summer transfer window after Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.
The 21-year-old came up through the youth ranks at Anderlecht before joining Rennes in a €26m deal three years ago.
He has accumulated significant top-flight experience after making 91 appearances for the Ligue 1 club, registering 12 goals and ten assists.
Doku is also a regular for the Belgium national team and has already won 14 caps with two goals to show for his involvement.
Man City are also working on a deal to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham United. The Brazilian is seen as a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who joined Barcelona earlier this summer.
