Man Utd in talks to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard

Manchester United are trying to sign Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, according to Florian Plettenberg.

United are in talks with the French international defender about personal terms.

This potential move follows the impending departure of Harry Maguire to West Ham United.

The Hammers have lodged a £30 million offer for the English centre-back, and he is heading out of Old Trafford.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag wants more options and has turned to Pavard – one of Bayern’s better performers last season.

The former VFB Stuttgart man helped his side keep nine clean sheets in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season as Bayern limped to the title.

The versatile defender has expressed his desire to leave and is open to moving to England.

Bayern would ideally prefer him to stay in their ranks, especially after Kyle Walker decided to stay at Manchester City.

However, they know they will have to let go of Pavard as he has only one year left on his contract and has refused to renew it beyond 2024.

The 27-year-old wants to embrace a fresh challenge and experience another league.

Pavard is a valuable asset for any club as he can slot seamlessly in at right-back and centre-back, although he prefers to operate centrally.

Man City also considered a deal to sign Pavard, but they will move on to strengthening other parts of their team with Walker staying at the club.

Ten Hag ideally wants to go into next season with four centre-backs – Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and one more addition. The last name could be Pavard.
