AS Roma open talks to sign Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata

AS Roma have opened talks with Atalanta over the potential signing of Duvan Zapata, reports Sky Sport Italia.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho has reiterated the need for a new centre-forward to cope with the absence of Tammy Abraham, who has been sidelined with an injury.

Giallorossi were linked with Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, but the Spaniard is reportedly leaning towards staying at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Roma initially discussed the availability of Luis Muriel with La Dea but later turned their attention towards Zapata.

The Giallorossi are planning to accelerate the negotiations for the Colombian striker, whose contract with La Dea expires next summer.

The 32-year-old has racked up 189 appearances for Atalanta, netting 81 goals and providing 43 assists.

Having spent nearly a decade in the Italian top flight, Zapata would be a smart addition to the capital giants.

However, the Colombian’s form remains a concern as he has experienced a significant dip in his performance levels over the past couple of seasons.

Roma have continued their negotiations for Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, who has been earmarked as their priority target for the summer.

Despite receiving the green light from the 20-year-old, the Giallorossi are struggling to find a breakthrough regarding the transfer fee.

The Serie A giants have made an offer worth €10 million plus €8m in bonuses and are awaiting a response from the Brazilian outfit.

Roger Ibanez is on the verge of sealing a move to Saudi giants Al-Ahli in a deal which will see Roma earn around €30m.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches remains another priority target, and Roma are working towards signing him on loan.
