Messi scores twice to propel Inter Miami into the League Cups quarter-final

Lionel Messi continued his recent magical performances as he scored twice to help Inter Miami beat FC Dallas in the League Cups round of 16 on Sunday.

The 36-year-old put his side in control by scoring a stunning goal after only six minutes, with Jordi Alba the provider.

But Dallas turned the game on its head with strikes from Facundo Quignon, Bernard Kamungo and Alan Velasco putting them 3-1 ahead by the hour mark.

Benjamin Cremaschi reduced the deficit before own-goals from Robert Taylor and Marco Farfan left Miami trailing 4-3 in the game.

But with just five minutes remaining, Messi delivered a superb free-kick into the top corner that levelled the match.

Miami prevailed in the subsequent penalty shootout by 5-3, with Messi, Sergio Busquets, Leonardo Campana, Kamal Miller and Cremaschi all hitting the target.

Messi has made a huge impact for the Herons since arriving at the DRV PNK Stadium in a massive deal last month.

He scored an injury-time winner on his debut against Cruz Azul before smashing a brace in his first start for Miami.

Messi also grabbed all the headlines in Miami’s 3-1 win over Orlando City, netting goals in either half.

The Argentine continued his magic on Sunday, scoring two crucial goals and converting his penalty during the shootout.

Miami were on a six-match winless streak before Messi’s arrival, but they have now been victorious in four consecutive games.
