Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka signs new four-year contract

Brentford have confirmed Nigeria international Frank Onyeka has penned a new four-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old joined the Bees in 2021 and has made over 40 Premier League appearances to date.

Fitness issues have prevented him from making a big impact, with the midfielder making only eight top-flight starts last season.

But Brentford clearly rate him highly as they have tied him down to a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Manager Thomas Frank said: “I’m very pleased that Frank has signed a new contract. He has helped the team a lot during our time in the Premier League.

“During both seasons he has been unlucky with injuries, which have prevented him from taking an even bigger step forward in terms of minutes, but I really like his energy.

“Frank is a great pressing player. He runs into the half-spaces and in behind, progressing up the pitch. He’s a very important player for us and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with him.”

Brentford signed Nathan Collins last month from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a club-record £23 million deal.

The 22-year-old’s transfer deal surpassed the £22m fee they paid to bring in Germany forward Kevin Schade from Freiburg earlier in the 2023 summer transfer window

The Bees also signed goalkeeper Mark Flekken from the Bundesliga outfit for a reported £11m fee.

The Dutch footballer is a replacement for David Raya, who has been linked with an exit this summer.

Arsenal have reportedly made an opening offer of £20m plus £3m in add-ons to seal a move for Raya

Aaron Ramsdale is the Gunners’ number-one goalie, but they want to sign the Spaniard to provide more competition.
