Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has been offered a new contract by the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Despite attracting interest from several Serie A giants, Morata will likely snub their advances and extend his stay with Atleti until June 2027.
The Spanish forward had only recently signed a contract until 2026 but will now have the opportunity to add another year to his deal.
The decision comes after discussions with manager Diego Simeone, where the two parties reached an agreement that solidified Morata’s future at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The 30-year-old featured in 36 La Liga matches for Atletico Madrid last season, bagging 13 goals and two assists.
However, his profligacy in front of goal remains an issue, having squandered 16 big chances.
Despite Morata’s inconsistency, AS Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan expressed keen interest in securing his services.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho considered Morata the perfect replacement for injured Tammy Abraham, but the club could not finalise the deal.
Inter identified Morata as a potential successor to Romelu Lukaku, while Milan also considered him before ultimately signing Noah Okafor.
Morata’s heart is set on continuing his journey with Atletico. The former Chelsea striker is eager to compete for a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s starting XI and prove his worth.
He would compete with Memphis Depay for a starting spot and potentially partner with Antoine Griezmann in Simeone’s preferred 4-4-2 formation.
Los Rojiblancos have been calm in the transfer market, securing Javi Galan and Santiago Mourino for paltry fees. They have also signed Caglasr Soyuncu and Cesar Azpiliceta for free.
The Madrid-based club is reportedly keen on adding another midfielder and are in talks for Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
