Treble winners Manchester City have set their sights on Stade Rennais winger Jeremy Doku as a potential replacement for the recently departed Riyad Mahrez, per Fabrizio Romano.
Mahrez left City to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli last month, and the Cityzens need a replacement for the Algerian.
Doku is also attracting interest from Liverpool, with the Reds monitoring acquiring the electric winger. He has been compared to former Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane.
He arrived at Rennes from Anderlecht in a €25 million deal in 2020. Despite battling injuries, he has become one of the most exciting attackers in Ligue 1.
The 20-year-old’s impressive performances have impressed many people, and the Breton club values him at €50 million.
Doku featured in 35 matches last season, bagging seven goals and four assists. He notched six goals and two assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances.
He is a versatile attacker able to deliver on either flank with aplomb. He combines speed with effective dribbling and directness, making him a danger for opposition full-backs.
His form has piqued the interest of the Premier League champions, who are now looking for a replacement for Mahrez.
Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is another potential target, although Chelsea are interested in securing his services.
However, an injury setback will keep him out of action for the initial weeks of the new season, casting doubts over a potential move.
With City seeking to strengthen their attacking prowess ahead of the new season, they could make a move for Doku.
