Gremio set to keep hold of Luis Suarez amid Messi reunion links at Inter Miami

Gremio star Luis Suarez will be denied a reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami at least until the end of this year.

Rumours have been circulating over the Major League Soccer outfit’s interest in the Uruguayan striker with the aim of reuniting him with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.

The deal has been in the pipeline for years when Messi and Suarez were playing for Barca.

The 36-year-old has been pushing to get the deal done to the extent that he is willing to pay to terminate his contract with Gremio, which runs until 2024.

Miami manager Tata Martino also confirmed the interest in the former Liverpool striker but stated there are difficulties in the deal despite the club securing an additional international slot in the squad recently.

ESPN now reports that Gremio have decided to keep hold of the veteran striker until December, thus ruling out a potential move to the United States.

Suarez moved to Brazil at the start of this year and has since grown into a key player for Gremio.

The former Ajax man continues to defy his age by delivering exceptional displays. He has netted 13 goals and nine assists this season.

Messi also shows no signs of slowing down, as he is off to a blistering start to his MLS career.

The World Cup winner netted a sensational last-minute free kick on his debut for Miami and followed up with a double against Atlanta United.
