Lazio have announced that former Barcelona forward Pedro has signed a new one-year contract keeping him at the club until the end of next season.
The 35-year-old winger joined Lazio from direct rivals AS Roma two years ago and has racked up 87 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 17 goals and 11 assists.
Pedro was an important part of Maurizio Sarri’s side last season, netting four times and providing five assists as Lazio rallied to a second-place finish in Serie A.
The experienced winger contributed seven goals and six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions last term.
After putting pen to paper on the new 12 months deal, Pedro called on his teammates and the club to better last season’s performance, with the Spanish winger keen to lift silverware at the club.
Pedro’s new deal could also be his last, with the Spanish stalwart hinting at retirement from professional football at the end of next season after claiming he wants to end his career at Stadio Olimpico.
“I thank President [Claudio] Lotito and coach Sarri for their trust,” Pedro said. “This group is like a family – even the fans were decisive for my renewal.”
“In these two years, we have grown a lot, especially from a mental point of view. We are constantly improving – we must continue like this.”
“I’m working to win a trophy in Italy too. We have to go on the pitch to try to win every game. We need this mentality.”
“I’d like to end my career at Lazio. The club has values that I like – values that have distinguished my career.”
Lazio have been linked with a move for Chelsea outcast Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is poised to leave his boyhood club this summer.
Pedro touched on the speculation surrounding Hudson-Odoi, urging the Englishman, who he shared the pitch with during his time at Stamford Bridge, to join him at Stadio Olimpico this summer.
“Hudson-Odoi would be an important coup,” Pedro added. “I know him well. I hope he can get to us.”
