Marseille announce signing of Ismaila Sarr

Marseille have completed the signing of Ismaila Sarr from Watfordas confirmed by the Ligue 1 club.

The Senegalese forward’s contract was due to expire in 2024 before Marseille struck an agreement with the Championship club worth around €13 million for his signing.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal until 2028.

Sarr left Rennes in 2019 and went on to make 131 appearances for Watford, bagging 34 goals and 24 assists.

The former Metz forward has also been a regular for the Senegalese national team, registering 54 appearances.

He was part of the side that ended as the runners-up of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and won the tournament in 2021.

Sarr is Marseille’s second attacking signing after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and fourth overall following the arrivals of Geoffrey Kondogbia and Renan Lodi.

Newly-appointed manager Marcelino is not wasting any opportunity in the transfer market as he looks to mount a title challenge and progress in the Champions League.

However, there is still work to be done as further attacking reinforcements may be needed following the departure of Dimitri Payet, while Alexis Sanchez has also evidently left the club.

Marseille haven’t given up their pursuit of long-term target Iliman Ndiaye despite facing obstacles in their pursuit.

Les Minots initially reached a verbal agreement with Ndiaye before reports broke that he was willing to extend his contract with Sheffield United, which expires in 2024.

However, Les Phoceens have recently resumed the negotiations and are hopeful of striking a deal for Ndiaye.

The Ligue 1 giants are also monitoring Atalanta full-back Joakim Maehle.
