Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez set for Spartak Moscow move

Tottenham Hotspur outcast Davinson Sanchez is on the cusp of joining Russian top-flight club Spartak Moscow, claims Win Sports TV’s Pipe Sierra.

The 27-year-old centre-back has been transfer-listed following a massively underwhelming campaign last season.

Sanchez was part of the Tottenham defence that registered their second-worst defensive record in the Premier League era after conceding a staggering 63 goals last season.

The Colombian centre-back is one of several Tottenham players on the chopping block, with Ange Postecoglou keen to stamp his identity on the squad following last season’s disaster.

The defence has been identified as an area of the squad that requires reinforcement, but Spurs want to part ways with some of their dead wood before recruiting new faces.

Despite Tottenham frequently lining up with a three-at-the-back system last term, Sanchez still found playing time hard to come by after starting in just eight of his 18 Premier League appearances.

The Colombia international centre-half only made 24 appearances across all competitions, falling below Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Clement Lenglet in the pecking order.

Sanchez is not in Postecoglou’s plans for the coming season, and his six-year association with the club is increasingly likely to end this summer with Spartak closing in on his signature.

The Russians have reportedly reached an agreement with Tottenham over a transfer fee, although the finances involved have not been disclosed.

They will now switch their attention to agreeing personal terms with the player, who is also subject to interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The Super Lig champions have been active this summer, and Sanchez was firmly on their radar. They had submitted a verbal proposal to sign him, but there is still no progress on that front.

There are expected to be more departures from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and talismanic striker Harry Kane strongly linked with moves away from Spurs.
