‘Doesn’t look good’ – Fulham boss provides injury update on Joao Palhinha

Fulham star Joao Palhinha suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Brentford.

The 28-year-old was forced off injured on the stroke of half-time, with Kevin Mbabu replacing him.

He was seen leaving the Lincoln Financial Field pitch with his arm supported in a makeshift sling.

Manager Marco Silva later admitted the midfielder’s injury is concerning and he will have a scan on Monday to determine the severity of the problem.

He said (as per BBC Sport): “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good. He’s probably dislocated his shoulder.

“Tomorrow he is going to do a scan and it will be more clear. Let’s hope it’s not another long-term injury for us.”

Palhinha joined Fulham from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £20 million last summer.

He hit the ground running, making 40 appearances across all competitions and scoring four goals.

The 28-year-old started 30 Premier League matches last term, playing a key role in helping his side finish 10th in the standings.

His excellent displays caught the attention of Liverpool and West Ham United, who both want to bolster their midfield ranks this summer.

The Hammers had a £45m bid rejected for the Portugal international, with Fulham demanding a whopping £80m to let the player leave.

However, Palhinha’s latest injury has sparked fears a summer move could now be off the cards.

It is unclear at this stage the extent of his injury, but he could be out for a long time if a dislocated shoulder is confirmed after the scan.
