Forgotten AC Milan star Ante Rebic has reportedly rebuffed a lucrative contract offer from an unnamed Saudi Pro League club.
According to Sky Italia, the 29-year-old has decided against accepting a bid worth €10 million per season from Saudi Arabia amid an uncertain future at San Siro.
Stefano Pioli has deemed the Croatia international surplus to requirements after two rather underwhelming seasons on the spin and is looking to cut him loose in the coming weeks.
Last season was particularly uninspiring for the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward, as he only netted three goals across 31 appearances in all competitions.
Rebic was Pioli’s last attacking choice in 2022/23, falling behind Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Junior Messias and Rafael Leao in the pecking order.
Milan lost Diaz to Real Madrid earlier in the summer, but they’ve signed Christian Pulisic from Chelsea and up-and-coming youngster Luka Romero on a free transfer.
The former Lazio starlet has enjoyed an impressive pre-season, chipping in with an assist in a 7-0 thumping of lower-league Lumezzane before scoring a stunning goal in a 3-2 loss to Madrid on Sunday.
Given Romero’s exploits, Pioli could change his initial idea of loaning the 18-year-old out to gain experience and give him the benefit of the doubt next season.
Noah Okafor’s role remains a mystery, considering the former RB Salzburg forward can play anywhere alongside the frontline.
With the Rossoneri on the cusp of landing Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze, Rebic’s future in Milan is bleak.
Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi are other leading candidates to make room for new signings after experiencing a miserable first season in Serie A.
Milan must sell several players to balance the books after spending over €100 million on seven new signings this summer, with few more to come.
