Borussia Dortmund set to sign Marcel Sabitzer

Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer will continue his career in the Bundesliga after Borussia Dortmund struck an agreement with their arch-rivals.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg reports the Austria international’s move to Signal Iduna Park is not a done deal yet.

However, he claims that talks are in the ‘advanced stages,’ suggesting the official announcement could follow soon.

While his report fails to reveal the terms, it’s believed Die Borussen will splash out approximately €19 million to close the arrangement.

Sabitzer failed to attend regular training sessions on Sunday due to reported muscle problems, but he might have had a more valid reason to sit on the sidelines.

It seems Dortmund have launched a decisive assault to rescue the 29-year-old from his Munich nightmare.

Edin Terzic has been in the market for Jude Bellingham’s successor after losing the marquee midfielder to Real Madrid at the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Felix Nmecha joined the club from Wolfsburg shortly after the Englishman’s departure, but the Bundesliga runners-up have now secured a more experienced midfield option.

This alternative comes in the form of Sabitzer, who fared reasonably well during his six-month loan at Manchester United last term but failed to earn a permanent contract at Old Trafford.

United’s hesitance saw the Austrian return to the Allianz Arena at the end of last season despite knowing his days in Munich were numbered long ago.

Barcelona were reportedly offered a chance to sign the former RB Leipzig man earlier in the summer, but they decided to pass after securing Ilkay Gundogan’s services on a free transfer.

Unlike Barca, Dortmund recognise Sabitzer’s qualities – so much so they’ve agreed to overpay for his arrival.

Despite his underwhelming career in Munich, the record-time Bundesliga champions will earn a decent profit from his transfer to Dortmund.
