Keylor Navas to stay at Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas is set to remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window, according to L’Equipe.

Navas has been the subject of transfer interest from Napoli over the last couple of weeks. However, the Serie A giants have failed to strike a deal with PSG and nothing is expected to change on that front before today’s deadline.

As confirmed by PSG manager Christophe Galtier, Navas will play second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma this season and the Costa Rican wants to leave in search of more first-team action.

“I was very clear with the goalkeepers at the start of the season,” Galtier was quoted saying by GOAL in the aftermath of PSG’s win over Urama Red Diamonds in a pre-season friendly last month.

“I prefer to operate with a hierarchy at the start of the season. He [Navas] knows what I expect of him in his role as number two.

“Even if I know that deep inside him there is a lot of frustration – for a club like PSG, it is very important to have two very good goalkeepers.”

Navas was named on the bench for his side’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Toulouse yesterday where PSG reclaimed top spot in the Ligue 1 table courtesy of goals from Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Juan Bernat.

With his current deal at the Parc des Princes running until 2024, it would be no surprise if Navas pushes for an exit from Les Parisiens either in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, PSG have continued their summer overhaul with Layvin Kurzawa joining Premier League newcomers Fulham on a season-long loan deal barely 24 hours after Julian Draxler completed a move to Benfica.
