Barcelona reach agreement with Porto for the sale of Nico Gonzalez

Barcelona have struck an agreement with FC Porto have struck an agreement over the transfer of midfielder Nico Gonzalez, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene with the first team in the 2021/22 season and was soon touted as the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets.

Nico was loaned out to Valencia last term, making 26 appearances and helping Los Che avoid relegation.

The Spaniard has been left out of Barca’s pre-season tour of the United States, allowing him to find a new club.

Barca have inserted a buyback option in the deal, but Porto are yet to receive the green light from Nico.

The Portuguese giants are looking to lower the midfielder’s salary and will be able to wrap up the deal once he accepts their demands.

A transfer away is the only sensible option for Nico due to the stacked midfield options in the current squad.

Sergiono Dest has also been linked with a move to Porto as he faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou amid varied speculation.

The US star is looking for a second chance to revive his career despite lacking trust from Xavi.

Barca are willing to offload Dest to balance the books, although the former AC Milan loanee could end up staying in Catalonia if they fail to bring in a new right-back.

Franck Kessie could also leave Camp Nou this summer as he may struggle for game time following the arrivals of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu.

Juventus are in pole position to land the Ivory Coast midfielder, who has rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League.
